The ARCA/CRA Super Series rolled into the Berlin Raceway this past weekend for the Berlin 125.  The 101L Super Late with Joe Bush at the wheel had a very strong showing for the Racing Awareness team with a 6th place qualifying effort and finished the 125 lap feature in the 7th position.  Joe ran consistently in the top five throughout until late in the race, giving up a couple of spots just prior to the checkers.  The top five included Brian Campbell, Terry Senneker, Travis Braden, Terry VanHaitsma and Nick Gullatta.

The night’s events also included the Model Coverall Modifieds and the 97L Modified with driver, Ben Welch.  Welch had a great night posting 2nd place finish in the feature behind Ryan Hamm.  The Modified Top 5, Hamm, Welch, Billy Shotko, Billy Eppink and Adam Chase.  Hamm captured two feature wins Saturday, one in the Modified class and a second in the 4-cylinder class.  Congrats Ryan!

Super Hands are colorful cutouts of a child’s hand, very similar to popular icon fundraisers. has put a twist on it, Super Hands are decals that will be added to the supporting Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital 97L Modified for HDVCH Night, Saturday June 28.

It’s simple to support Super Hands and have your hand carried on the 97L on HDVCH Night;
1.  Make a donation of $10
2.  Receive a Super Hand
3.  Write a note, autograph, dedication, etc. (optional).
4.  Return the Super Hand to be add to the 97L (optional, you are welcome to keep your Super Hand)

Many of us from had the opportunity to meet Brooke and her mom, Jessica Hester, last June at HDVCH Night at Berlin Raceway.  Brooke and her entire family are leading an army of people all over the country for the same mission as; to raise awareness and funds in support of Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital and the amazing things that are happening at The Big Blue Building.

It’s Saturday morning and that means it’s time to put the final touches on the race cars and look forward to tonight’s  racing program at the Berlin Raceway.’s 55L with driver Dave Lake, and 101L with driver Joe Bush, will be in action in the Boyne Machine Super Late Model event along with the Enterprise Iron and Metal Sportsman, The Engine Pro Super Stocks and the Kalamazoo Vapor 4-Cyls. This is a super line up and promises to be a great show!

Joy’s family has shared the following for everyone to know a little more about their loved one as well as details regarding arrangements. Joy Eileen (Ellis) Bush Age 78, of Hastings, MI was called to our Lord, surrounded by family, May 12, 2014. She was born July 17, 1935, Cascade, MI, daughter of Owen and Winifred (Jousma) Ellis of Lowell, MI. She attended Lowell schools, graduating class of 1953. Joy married John Clifford Bush, April 16, 1953, Alaska, MI and settled in rural, Barry County, MI. She spent her life dedicated to faith, family and friends. Raising four boys on the farm, getting an Associate’s Degree from Kellogg Community College later in life, then through social services followed the passion of her heart helping new moms for almost 20 years ultimately to retire from Catholic Social Services. An avid all sports fan, though racing topped the list, never a missed an event when it involved her grandchildren. She enjoyed walking with friends, hauling in winter wood, canning, crocheting, reading and traveling. A champion to find a Cure for Multiple Sclerosis, a member of Community of Christ Church, Hastings, MI, and Model A Club, Grand Rapids, MI, she loved life and committed it to making better for all. She was preceded in death by her parents, Owen and Winnifred Ellis. Survived by a loving husband, companion, friend, John Bush, Hastings, MI, four sons, Greg and Deb Bush, Ludington, MI, Dennis and Nancy Bush, Hudsonville, MI, Roger and Sandy Bush, Kalamazoo, MI, Joe and Lorraine Bush, Hastings, MI, a sister, Marva and Al Andrews of Fremont, California, with bountiful blessings of (11) grandchildren, (15) great grandchildren and (1) great, great grandchild and a community of friends. A memorial service is planned for Wednesday, May 21, at 11:00 am, Community of Christ Church, 8146 68th St Se, Alto, MI, US, 49302 with fellowship following. The team will see its first on track action beginning on Saturday May 3rd at the Berlin Raceway in Marne, Michigan.  All three RA cars are scheduled to race – 55L Super Late, 101L Super Late and the 97L Modified.

We invite you to follow RA throughout the year by joining us at the track and following the races in the pit area for driver autographs, pictures and the opportunity to sit in a race car.

The Mission and Racing Awareness Inc. are two separate entities that were created with the sole intent of providing children and their families from Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital, of West Michigan, who are experiencing or have experienced an illness or injury of a child, a diversion from the healthcare process utilizing the sport of auto racing.ra2

ra13 Racing Awareness Inc. ra3In 2014 Racing Awareness Inc. will launch into its fifth competitive season of short track racing at the Berlin Raceway located in Marne, Michigan, just outside of Grand Rapids.   The team competes with two cars in the Super Late Model division, a class that closely resembles the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.  In addition to being a championship winning race team (2011 Modified Division), RA exists to market and promote supporting Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital with both cars competing under the HDVCH logo and colors. The use of race cars as a marketing tool to promote and build awareness for HDVCH was also geared towards the children of the hospital.  RA has enjoyed success both on and off the track by offering experiences in motorsports to children and their families that they would otherwise most likely not be able to experience.
