We just completed our 8th year as a featured attraction to the Michigan International Auto Show at the DeVos Place in Grand Rapids.  Both the 97L Modified and the 97L Mini Wedge got their graphics on courtesy of Horvath Design. We introduced our 2018 charity t-shirt (sold out) and raised money for Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital

How did we get started: see below

This was the beginning of it all.  In 2006, Tristan wanted to meet his hero, Tony Stewart.  That day provided the idea behind RacingAwareness.

We met Lexi in 2008. She became an inspiration to us on the day we met. The idea of RacingAwaress was now becoming a reality. Just two years later, Lexi joined Maranda at the STAR 105.7FM radiothon to help us make the first RA donation of $35,000 to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital.  Lex has gone from HDVCH patient and 8th grader in 2010, to Grand Valley State freshman in 2014, to today racing her own Sprint Car.

We met Logan in 2008 also. This young man became an inspiration to us on the day we met him at Michigan International Speedway.  He quickly proved his racing knowledge and gave us something to smile about.  The idea of RacingAwaress was now becoming a reality. Today, Logan enjoys traveling and spending as much time at the track is he can (any track – anywhere).

2011, another $35,000.  STAR 105.7’s Tommy & Brooke, RA’s Norm Jelsma and Jeff Striegle and the AMAZING Kierstynn Foster make another check presentation.  From cancer survivor to Make-a-Wish but not as a recipient, but rather a wish granter to others.
We are blessed by many kids and their families that support us.  Joel is from Toledo, but makes an annual trip each year, with his parents, to the Berlin Raceway to show his support.
We are always meeting amazing kids. This one  (Lucas) stole the show in 2017.  Hoping to just ride on a golf cart, but leaving with so much more & and leaving us feeling blessed that we got to meet him.  Lucas found out just 7-days before this picture was taken that he was cancer free!
To date, we have held a Charity Golf Outing through each of eight year.  Each year it has been sold out. Each year it raises more money than the year before. And, each year we are amazed at who’s show up. Picture: 2015 Tournament Champions from Lyden Oil Company, along with NASCAR Hall of Famer, Rusty Wallace.
Opportunity becomes reality with amazing people. Over the years, we have had more than 250 different people volunteer for RA.  Auto Shows, golf outings, selling shirts and raffle tickets, answering phones at radiothon’s to hosting families at the track, we are grateful to those that have served with us.
RacingAwareness.com & RacingAwareness Inc will charge into this year as we done for each year prior, working to raise money and awareness in the on-going fight against childhood cancer. We will also pause to take in every amazing moment to happens: and there are plenty!  So just when you think you have “seen it all”, just ask Erin …
Just remember, there are Super Hero’s everywhere and we aren’t talking about the two in costume (they are volunteers), but rather the two on the Big Wheels!
Thank you Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital for what you do everyday.  Presentation check delivered to Dr James Fahner,  M.D. & Dr Giselle Scholler, M.D. (Chair of Beat Childhood Cancer)
